DAVID CAMERON NO SHOW IN SERRANÍAExclusive By David Eade – Costa del Sol News
British Prime Minister, David Cameron, appears not to be coming to the Serranía de Ronda after all this summer. Ronda News has been in contact with the Prime Minister’s Office at No 10 Downing Street who said “he will be spending the most of his time in Cornwall and at Chequers.”
Before the excitement of the Obama visit broke the Málaga press was full of reports that David and Samantha would return to the Serranía – probably staying with friends in Gaucín and certainly visiting Ronda.
There had also been reports in the UK press that the Camerons would head to Turkey for a cruise. However as Samantha is heavily pregnant and indeed is expecting a baby next month it seems they have opted to stay in the UK instead. Disappointing for the Serranía but probably a wise decision.
NOT WORKING
Ronda’s mayor, Antonio Marín, has announced he has replaced Juan Fraile as the councillor responsible for public works and town planning as well as being a deputy mayor. He explained he wanted somebody more dedicated in the post and has appointed María José Martín de Haro. This is the seventh councillor to leave his or her post under Marín since the last elections.
NEW MUNICIPALITIES
Málaga will have its 102 nd and 103 rd municipalities within the next three years. The outlying districts of Ronda – Montecorto and Serrato – will achieve this status in the not too distant future. September will see the administrative process started under the new law on local autonomy. Ronda has signalled that it is not opposed to the two communities ceding from its control.
MUSICAL CHAIRS
The new president of Gaucín Partido Popular, Pedro Godino, has been appointed to the council as the substitute for Diego Trujillo who recently stood down for personal reasons. Trujillo had been a councillor for 18 months as he had replaced an out-going PP representative. It is understood Trujillo had disagreements with mayor Francisco Ruíz who is also meant to be standing down.
BIKE USERS
Since the bike hire scheme was introduced in Ronda two weeks ago 100 people have registered to use the system. Banks of up to ten bikes are at key locations in the town such as the bus and railway stations plus at frequently visited sites. Over the same period of time there had been no significant acts of vandalism to the bikes or installations.
NIGHT DAY
The contract has been issued for a new sports centre at La Dehesa in Ronda. It will cost a million euros with funds coming from the Plan Zapatero. It will be located at the Virgen de la Cabeza school. The idea is pupils will use the facilities during the day and they will be available to the public in the afternoons and evenings.
