The new local development plan (PGOU) that has been drawn up for Ronda has finally created a new industrial zone. It is located on the A-366 road to El Burgo (shown above) on an area of three million square metres. Several other sites have been considered over the years including Llanos de Aguaya and La Cuña del Cimbra but these have now all been rejected.
The site is on the right as you leave Ronda and lies between the industrial units belonging to Caorza and the former Los Arcos swimming pool. It has easy access from the road and is of a size that will permit a large number of industrial units to be constructed there. The land is partly owned by the town hall and hence will generate major income for the municipality as the industrial units are sold off or leased.
It is expected that the new PGOU will come before the council in the first two weeks of July. During the period the plans were open to public inspection some 300 submissions were made and these are now being considered by the drafters of the document. The PGOU could receive its initial approval this autumn.
Cortes de la Frontera plans meet Andalucía norm
Cortes de la Frontera is one of only three municipalities out of the 100 in Málaga province whose local development plan now meets in full the requirements of the Andalucía planning law (LOUA). The LOUA was established in 2004 but to date only Cortes, Mollina and Rincón de la Victoria meet its provisions according to the regional government.
WORKING WOMEN MUSEUM OPENS IN MONTEJAQUE
On March 8 the old fountain in Montajaque was the scene of much celebration as the women of the village gave a demonstration of how in times past they used to gather there to do their washing. The building is now a museum to the traditional ways of life in Montajaque and it was inaugurated by the president of the Diputación de Málaga, Salvador Pendón, at a ceremony on the ‘Day of the Women Workers’. The band played as the delegation of guests toured the building. Ana María Reyes Pinos observed: “They were bad times. This place has for me many memories but for visitors today it is very beautiful.”
PARTY MERGER
The socialist party in Ronda has given the green light to members of the Partido Andalucista joining its ranks. PSOE and the PA are currently in coalition and the Andalucista mayor, Antonio Marín, has signalled he would like to join the socialists although when in a previous coalition with the Partido Popular he said he wished to join them but his overtures were rejected.
OLIVE DECLINE
The olive harvest in Ronda has seen a 7 per cent drop this season with 5.2 million kilos of olives gathered compared with 5.6 in 2008. Many of the olives are of a high quality but at present only a low price is being paid. It is estimated that up to 1.2 million litres of oil will be produced by the Ronda collective.
HOUSE SALE
The National Police have moved in to arrest a man and woman who were selling drugs from their homes to minors in Ronda. Officers seized cocaine, heroin, a mix of both, methadone, hashish and various tablets. There was also equipment for preparing the drugs for sale. The woman was arrested at the house but her partner was caught in the street selling the drugs.
HISTORIC RE-ENACTMENT
This weekend, March 21 and 22, Gaucín will stage an historic re-enactment of the taking of the village by the Napoleonic forces and the uprising by local people and bandits from the Serranía to drive them out. The events start at noon on the Saturday and recommence at 11.00 on the Sunday. Several hundred people will take part in costumes of the period.
PARENTS ATTACKED
A 17-year-old youth is being held at the disposition of the Minor’s Prosecutor after his parents reported him for physical and verbal abuse over a period of time. The National Police say such occurrences are rare in Ronda and the situation of the parents has caused surprise amongst officers and in the justice system. The parents have been badly affected by their ordeal.
SCHOOL PROTESTS
The parents of infants at the Giner de los Ríos school in Ronda have been given some hope after their protests at rumours of its closure. The Andalucía educational authority says it has not decided to close the school or transfer the children to a nearby college. Such a move is expected if low registration numbers continue and parents intend to maintain their campaign.
HOT COLD
Ronda is to invest 90,000 euros on a series of improvements to the Vicente Espinel municipal theatre. This will include and heating and air condition unit. Other improvements that are being carried out are to the seating, flooring as well as the light and sound systems.
